Spode Works

As part of a multi-disciplinary team with Mace, Montague Evans and Urban Flow, Augarde & Partners produced a development plan and a long term vision for the future of Spode Works, a unique historic pottery factory in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Spode factory closed in 2008 after almost 250 years of production and innovation, leaving behind a wealth of knowledge and a number of decaying heritage buildings. In 2010, the site was acquired by the Council who have brought some buildings back into office and creative use. Upon securing £10m of UK Government funding to bring new opportunities to the site, our team was commissioned to draw up a deliverable plan balancing heritage and viability constraints.

A&P engaged with over 100 stakeholders from civic, cultural and business sectors, including existing tenants-building partnerships and an evidence base for local demand. We helped the development of a cohesive vision and stakeholder-led delivery approach which supports the sustainable regeneration of Spode and brings benefits to the neighbouring Stoke Town Centre.
