Community-Centric Regeneration in Newham’s Custom House
Working alongside Mace, Augarde & Partners are supporting the London Borough of Newham to deliver the regeneration of Custom House in east London. This is a major multi-phase estate renewal programme.
The team have been advising on overall programme management and the strategy for delivery of community and commercial space in the scheme, in which every ground floor space on the high street will be redeveloped over time.
We are helping Newham Council balance a range of issues and objectives, including re-providing accommodation for existing traders, using commercial space to contribute to the council’s community wealth building agenda (such as space for local entrepreneurs and skills development), delivering community services and generating sustainable long-term income to the council.
Our strategy centres on the opportunity of establishing a community-owned high street with residents and businesses having an ongoing and active role in the curation and stewardship of Freemasons Road and the wider non-residential offer in the neighbourhood.
