Meanwhile Strategy for Pudding Mill Lane
Augarde & Partners worked with Countryside to develop a Meanwhile Strategy for their bid to redevelop the Pudding Mill Lane site with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).
The strategy was focussed on developing skills and training for Newham (and wider growth boroughs) residents; enabling SMEs in local temporary space or at risk of displacement; preparing SMEs for permanent space; providing a testbed for inclusive innovation; and supporting existing communities.
The vision for meanwhile space at Pudding Mill Lane was to build on the heritage and strengths of the area – specifically, its culture of creative production and practice; the growing movement towards a just transition to net zero through an emerging creative economy; and supporting the entertainment industry in and around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park by growing the hospitality and food-based economy.
Wherever possible, these reused existing meanwhile spaces and opportunities created by LLDC, and aim to ensure that the partners delivering meanwhile space become part of the long-term stewardship of permanent spaces for Pudding Mill Lane.
The bid was successful; Countryside /Vistry is forming a joint partnership with the LLDC and the meanwhile proposals set out in our strategy will be taken forward.
